An earthquake with magnitude 7.0 occurred near Iquique, Chile at 21:16:33.40 UTC on Mar 16, 2014.
The epicenter of the quake was located 70 km northwest of Iquique in northern Chile, at a depth of 32 km, the US Geological Survey said.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
Chile says it has ordered a preventive evacuation along part of its northern coastline following the earthquake.
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center: “A destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.”
