Gaming app “Flappy Bird” which released in May 2013, topped the free apps chart in the U.S and Chinese app stores. Some critics suspected that its developer Dong Nguyen has used bots to cause its sudden rise in popularity in the start of 2014. Following this controversy, the developer decided to discontinue the app.
